Boiler Room (2000)
USA / Russian
"Where would you turn? How far would you go? How hard will you fall? "A college dropout gets a job as a broker for a suburban investment firm, which puts him on the fast track to success, but the job might not be as legitimate as it sounds.
For Business Movie Junkies
You may need to watch "Boiler Room" twice to fully get every detail of
the storyline. If you don't have a solid understanding of business
terms such as IPOs, stock splits, etc this movie may not be for you.
However, if you're a business junkie like I am, it's well worth the two
hours. Casting was good but could have been better. I would have liked
for Ben Affleck's character to play a larger role. He played the
character of the recruiter for the stock brokerage firm. The lines he
used in his "Act as if..." rant were classic. Giovanni Ribisi played
the lead character well. He's put on the fast track to make big money
but soon figures out that something with J.T. Marlin's (ironic name for
the firm) business model seems sketchy.
Several references to other classic business movies such as "Wall
Street" and "Glengarry Glen Ross" were made in the movie. One scene
even has the stockbrokers all repeating lines word for word from the
"Wall Street" movie.
